Are you a student using SAS in your research or course work?  Are you interested in connecting with other SAS users and enhancing your SAS skills?

The NorthEast SAS Users Group (NESUG) Conference is an educational event that encourages knowledge sharing among SAS users.  With support from SAS, NESUG is pleased to offer a limited number of Student Scholarships to selected students who are using SAS in their course work or research.

Those selected as NESUG Student Scholars will enjoy complimentary registration for NESUG 2012 in Baltimore, Maryland.  This includes admission to Opening Session on November 11, keynote addresses, all paper and poster presentations and workshops on November 12 – 14, snacks and social events open to all attendees, plus an intensive half-day workshop on Sunday, November 11.  A select number of scholarships may include partial funding for travel or accommodations.  Other travel and accommodation expenses are not covered and will be the responsibility of the student.

Scholarship applicants are encouraged to also submit an abstract for a conference paper.  Preference for scholarships will be given to those who submit an abstract.  Topics for conference papers may be your experience with SAS for your research, whether it be a technical tip that helped you organize or analyze your data, how you used SAS to run your analyses and answer a research problem, or any tip or trick for using SAS that may benefit others.  You can visit the Online Proceedings to see papers from previous conferences as examples.  If you’re interested in this opportunity to improve your public speaking and professional writing as well as adding a publication to your resume, then refer to the Call for Papers page for information. The deadline for submitting an abstract is May 11, 2012.  If your abstract is selected, our Section Chairs will guide you though the process of preparing your paper for publication.  Please note that acceptances are independent; acceptance of your abstract does not guarantee a scholarship, nor does a receipt of a scholarship guarantee acceptance of your abstract.

Selection Criteria for Scholarship Awards includes:

  • Submission of a complete application by May 30, 2012.
  • Status as a student registered in a degree-granting program at the time of application and at the time of conference (November 2012).
  • Current use of SAS software for research or studies.
  • Commitment to volunteer at NESUG for ½ day during the conference.  NESUG is an all-volunteer organization made up of SAS users.  We expect that our scholarship recipients will volunteer at least ½ day of their time during the conference to assist NESUG, as many of our attendees do.  Volunteering is a great way to meet other SAS users and contribute to the success of the conference.

Submission of a paper abstract by May 11, 2012 is encouraged but not required.

The Application Form can be completed here.  The scholarship application deadline is May 30, 2012.  Decisions for both scholarship acceptance and abstract acceptance will be communicated by email around mid-June.
