Volunteer Opportunities

Overview

NESUG conferences are run entirely by volunteers. We need you in order to make NESUG 2008 a worthwhile, enjoyable, and successful conference. You must be a registered attendee to volunteer. Here are some positions that are available:

  • Session Coordinators assist Section Chairs and presenters. They have several responsibilities, such as distributing handouts, operating room lights, and providing time reminders during the presentations. Session Coordinators are needed in all sections, including Sunday and Hands-On Workshops. Session coordinators usually sign up for one morning or afternoon block of a given section. Choose a section you are interested in, and get to listen to the presentations while you do a great service to the conference!
  • Registration Staff members usually serve in two-hour periods during the conference, distributing registration materials and providing general information about the conference. It's a great place for new attendees to meet people and learn about the conference.
  • Posters Volunteers help the Section Chairs for the poster section set up the posters on Sunday afternoon OR take them down on Wednesday morning.

Remember these facts about volunteering when you register online:

  • You will get to volunteer at a time that is convenient for you.
  • The time commitment is quite modest.
  • If this is your first time, a more experienced volunteer will "show you the ropes" at the conference.
  • You do NOT need any special SAS or other technical expertise!
  • Saying "yes" does not absolutely commit you to volunteer. It simply means that the volunteer coordinator or a section chair will contact you to answer your questions and see if you can help out.
  • If you do volunteer, you'll get a special "thank you" gift at the conference - not to mention the sincere appreciation of the conference leaders!

If you have any questions about volunteering, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Christianna Williams.
